Dynamic Acoustic Systems Elevate Workplace Performance

For a headquarters as fast-paced as MTR Corporation Limited in Hong Kong, the office environment must be capable of shifting instantly between the high-energy demands of collaboration and absolute stillness required for confidential executive decision-making. The design of acoustic partitions moves beyond basic separation; it becomes a fundamental driver of workplace productivity to balance both noise and silence. 

The Challenge: Balancing Connectivity & Seclusion

The design confliction at MTR Corporation Limited is centered on the paradox of modern offices. The balance between total spatial openness to foster collaboration with high-performance acoustic isolation. Without an adaptive infrastructure, meeting spaces often become stagnant, which creates “dead” square footage that cannot be repurposed. The main priority was to implement commercial office fit-out solutions that could disappear when company collaborations were needed, yet when the partitions were closed, perform with the acoustic weight of a concrete wall. 

Key challenges: 

• Managing sound transmission without permanent floor-to-ceiling obstructions. 

• Ensuring that high-performance STC-rated glass partitions perform in the field, not just in a controlled laboratory environment. 

• Reducing the physical and temporal cost of reconfiguring large meeting zones. 
• Maintaining a premium, natural light filled aesthetic with adaptability for movable partitions.  

The Solution: Engineering an Elastic Workspace 

JEB Group approached this project by viewing the floorplan as a living system rather than a series of static rooms. By moving beyond modular furniture, an ecosystem was created using our X-Series double-glazed partitions and Integra operable walls. By specifying anodized Matte Natural frames, the technical hardware (the tracks, the seals, and the frames) is ensured to have contributed to a cohesive architectural narrative rather than acting as visual clutter. 

Project highlights: 

• By integrating X-Series partitions with Integra operable walls, which creates a seamless transition between fixed glass and movable sound-dampening panels. 

• The Integra system provides the seal necessary for high-level workplace acoustic design, effectively turning a public area into a private room in minutes. 

• Double-glazing ensures that even when the space is partitioned, visual connectivity and natural light remains uninterrupted which prevents the feeling of confinement common in traditional meeting rooms. 

• The Anodized Matte Natural finish acts as a neutral canvas, allowing the architecture of the headquarters to take center stage while the partition systems provide high-performance utility.
