One of the most persistent challenges when it comes to big workspace design is the “fishbowl vs. bunker” dilemma. Fully glazed meeting rooms supports openness and natural light flow but often don’t provide adequate speech privacy. On the other hand, solid partitions achieve the level of ideal acoustic barriers but rejects spatial continuity and the visual aesthetic that modern workplaces demand. Striking a balance between these opposite ends becomes increasingly difficult as the number of rooms grows. 

Key challenges: 

• Maintaining natural daylight and spatial continuity without compromising acoustic isolation. 

• Preventing sound leakage across large workplaces that is typically caused by system vulnerabilities like vertical joints, and door integrations. 

• Eliminating bulky, rigid partitions that achieves higher acoustic privacy but disrupts clean and open workplace aesthetics. 

• Balancing between performance, speech privacy and visual appeal, aesthetics as the volume of rooms increases. 

The Solution: A Fully Integrated System 

Spanning seven floors with 137 meeting rooms, this project required a scalable approach to workplace acoustics that was achieved by a fully integrated system combining JEB X-Series double-glazed partitions (STC 45-rated) with high-performance Plus doors. This approach is not just about the STC-rated glass partitions, but how the entire system works together. From eliminating common weak points by establishing continuity between glass, frame, and doors where sound leakage typically occurs. In large-scale environments, the inclusion of high-performance Plus doors is particularly significant as they prevent the common issue in acoustics in traditional office fit-outs by directly aligning door performance with the partition system. This comprehensive acoustic integrity was achieved without introducing heavy or intrusive framing elements, by utilizing a classic white frame finish to provide a clean, neutral aesthetic that maintains visual consistency across the floors.

This stunning neoclassical mansion serves not only as an educational hub with lecture rooms and design workshops, but also as a cultural destination, with public exhibition spaces and a library featuring hundreds of publications. This case study explores how intentional curation of spatial and furniture solutions transformed the historic property into an engaging, and functional environment. 

The Challenge: Heritage Educational Spaces 

Converting a neoclassical mansion into a modern school, fit for jewellery arts, presented a multi-layered design complexity. The spaces needed to accommodate diverse activities, from workshops to lectures to public exhibitions, while preserving the building’s historic architecture and meeting sustainability guidelines. In educational environments today, they must also support varying levels of conversation, from individual study to group collaboration, without compromising comfort or the brand’s ethos.
