JEB Completes Landmark Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Project at Chinese International School

At JEB, we pride ourselves on delivering more than just acoustic partitions — we create sustainable, future-ready solutions that push the boundaries of green building technology. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our first Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) project in Hong Kong, proudly delivered for the Chinese International School (CIS).

CIS’s Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is a core value at CIS, where the school is deeply committed to upholding sustainable practices and educating students to work towards a sustainable future. From curriculum and food services to buildings and transportation, CIS takes a holistic approach to fostering a sustainable campus, actively engaging key stakeholders along the way. The school’s long-term goal is to achieve carbon neutrality and serve as a model for other schools in both campus sustainability and sustainability education.

Project Overview: Leading by Example in Green Building Design

CIS aims to be a leader in green building design. As part of this vision, solar panels have been installed on the roof to reduce the school’s carbon footprint, and older buildings are being upgraded from single glazed to double glazed windows to improve energy efficiency.

Partnering with JEB, CIS specified a comprehensive BIPV installation that includes:

  • 800 m² of high-performance BIPV glass on the rooftop
  • 710 m² of photovoltaic panels integrated into the façades
  • A total system capacity of 65.685 kWp, expected to generate approximately 52,257 kWh of clean electricity annually
Beyond Buildings: A Living, Sustainable Community

CIS’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond infrastructure. The school established a Community Garden in 2018, complete with an irrigation system and various planter boxes. Supported by two local farmers who assist with sourcing seedlings and seeds, the garden is tended by parents, teachers, and students. The produce grown is donated to local elderly homes and homeless shelters, exemplifying CIS’s dedication to community engagement and social responsibility.

Educational Impact and Future Vision

The BIPV system and campus upgrades transform CIS into a living classroom, providing students with hands-on experience in renewable energy, environmental science, and sustainability practices. This practical learning environment inspires the next generation of environmental stewards and innovators.
